Laptop Care and Tips

Preserving Your Laptop Battery

Often people leave their laptops stationary and plugged in. This is one of the worse things you can do as far as your laptop battery goes. The lifespan on laptop batteries as well as batteries for other electronics such as power tools is usually determined by power cycles. A normal laptop lithium-ion battery is rated for 300, 500, or 1000 power cycles depending on what size it is. Leaving your laptop plugged in keeps it always charging running these cycles through a lot faster than they should be. It would actually be more beneficial to allow your laptop to run the battery completely down and recharge it than to leave it plugged in all the time.

For those who keep their laptop stationary, did you know you can actually remove the battery from your laptop and, as long as you keep it plugged in, can use it just the same? This is actually recommended for those who aren't very mobile with their laptops. This will allow you to use your computer without the laptop battery constantly recharging; this will greatly increase the longevity of your batteries life. In the case where you go, say a month without having your battery plugged in it's good to reconnect it to allow it to drain completely and recharge it where you can then once again remove it for the next month. This will reduce the amount of power cycles and could potentially double the lifespan of your battery.

If you want to have a spare battery or replace a battery that is not giving you over an hour of charge time, contact us, we can find the exact battery you need for your laptop.
